¡Olé! According to abcnews.go.com, there are more Mexican restaurants than Italian bistros, Chinese kitchens, chicken rotisseries, or seafood shacks in the United States. That’s roughly 38,000 Mexican eateries dispersed across America (as of 2011).
In 2013, Keith Schubert added to this vast number of Mexican eateries in the form of a food truck, and one with a unique take on Mexican food.
As a world-wide traveling vegan-vegetarian, with an extreme love for tacos and burritos, Schubert decided to launch Taco Party, his unique Boston business focused of vegan-Mexican cuisine.
In April 2015, Taco Party relocated to a permanent residence at 711 Broadway Somerville, MA, (a quick walk from Davis Square) and has been doing exceedingly well ever since.
Listen to Schubert explain how he got started, and why he choose to open a vegan styled taco shop.
What makes Taco Party unique?
At Taco Party, the mission is to nourish your body in the best way possible, while enjoying Mexican cuisine, which can often leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable ( when not executed properly that is!). At Taco Party, they are serving ingredients that taste great and make you feel better at an extremely affordable cost.
The crispy fried tofo taco ($4 plus tax) was definitely not what I was expecting. It was hard to believe that something could taste that good and be completely meat free with so many nutritionally balanced ingredients.
From Sriracha BBQ jackfruit tacos, to gluten free nachos, there are a handful of items to choose from off of the menu at Taco party. There is also the option to pick and choose your own meal, consisting of two tacos and a regular side, for the price of $10 (plus tax).
In addition to their tacos, the shop is serving vegan-inspired deserts for customers who want to indulge in something a little bit sweeter after eating a rich and zesty taco.
Taco Party is not just limited to those who choose to live a vegan lifestyle, but is also serving members from every dietary tribe.
An all around great experience and one that might just make me switch over to the vegan side of things!
